Worth knowing before you book: there are no showers here, and no electric hook-ups. You get toilets, drinking water and somewhere quiet to pitch.
Pitch where you like, an hour from the city
Stoke Poges Campsite is a back-to-basics site on the edge of Buckinghamshire farmland. Choose a spot in the woods or out in the open field, put the tent wherever suits you, and light a fire once it gets dark. The village shop and pub are a walk away, and Gerrards Cross station puts you in central London in under half an hour, so it works as easily for a first-night camping trip as for a weekend base.
